Amateur artists are dipping their toes in the water and displaying their artwork at a pop-up gallery in Weymouth. While some of the artists have attended art classes regularly for some years and exhibited previously, others to the Secret Gallery are relative newcomers and are showing their art publicly for the first time. Anyone with an interest in the game this is a great opportunity. Please DM us with any questions or expressions of interest. This is a unique opportunity for anyone interested in refereeing Rugby League in the South West to gain experience and then have the opportunity to referee future fixtures. Malcolm Holmes will be hosting the session which will include observation of the live County of Origin match between Cornwall and Devon as part of the session. Yesterday, 24 Giants came together as a squad to play a competitive inter-club fixture at Weymouth. Notwithstanding a few absences for work or other commitments, our squad numbers now stand in the mid thirties at the mid point in our season. The passion displayed in the match yesterday is our statement of intent for this league and rugby league in the SW.
The Society is a friendly group which welcomes artists of all levels of experience, from beginners to seasoned painters - amateurs to professionals. It is a non-profit making body whose aim is to encourage interest in and practice of the visual arts. This includes painting, drawing and print-making together with sculpture and 3D artworks. It specifically excludes photography and photographic copies of original artworks.
Subject matter of the painting varies and includes flowers, plantlife, fruit, vegetables, also butterflies, birds and, occasionally, animals. Works are mainly in watercolour, gouache or coloured pencil. Spokesman Mary Cantrille said: "Botanical painting is precise and absorbing, a source of great satisfaction when we do it well.
